The recommendations in this section are using the RoI fertiliser classification system and are based on Teagasc research. Due to slight differences between the RoI and NI classification systems, these recommendations are only a guide for Northern Ireland farmers. They can be converted between the RoI and NI classification systems using this CONVERSION TABLE
Before choosing your fertiliser products please consult your local advisor to ensure that you do not exceed the limits for your farm as determined by the nitrates directive (SI no 378) of 2006.

For all situations, apply C.A.N., Sweetgrass or Urea to satisfy the extra Nitrogen requirement as recommended by your advisor. |
Richland: 22.7 - 2.5 - 5 + 3% Sulphur (S) + Copper (Cu), Manganese (Mn), Magnesium (Mg) and Zinc (Zn).This product is ideal for supplying N, P, K and essential trace elements for growing top quality grass and silage. |
Sweetgrass: 23% Nitrogen (N) + 2% Sulphur (S) + 1.2% Magnesium (Mg) + 5% Sodium (Na). This product is especially formulated with the grass farmer in mind. The Sulphur and Magnesium will help to increase grass protein while the Sodium will encourage cows to have higher dry matter intakes, making it an excellent product for growing top quality silage. |
Replenish: 18 - 2.5 - 14 + 2% Sulphur (S) + Copper (Cu), Manganese (Mn), Magnesium (Mg) and Zinc (Zn).This product combines low P and high K, Sulphur and essential trace elements ideal for top quality silage. |
Where Sulphur (S) is required, choose a product from our product list with similar N, P, K contents to the products recommended above, and apply. The Teagasc recommended level for silage is 20 units/S/acre/per year. For more information on Sulphur go to Fertiliser index system page. |
